Plastic
Plastic shopping bags are packaging materials made from polyolefin as the main raw material, with appropriate addition of other substances. The polyolefins used are mainly polyethylene (PE), commonly known as soft adhesives. The main products include four categories: low-density polyethylene or high-pressure polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene or low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), and metallocene polyethylene (mLLDPE). In order to reduce its costs, most companies add about 30% calcium carbonate to make filled plastic shopping bags. These types of plastic shopping bags do not release toxic gases when burned in the garbage dump. The newly introduced national plastic shopping bag standard divides plastic shopping bags into three Categories:
Ordinary plastic shopping bags - using polyolefin and fillers as raw materials, this type of plastic shopping bag does not have degradation performance and will not degrade even when discarded in the wild. This type of plastic shopping bag has excellent recyclability and can be recycled multiple times. The performance of recycled materials is slightly reduced to varying degrees, but they can be used to produce shopping bags or garbage bags that do not have high performance requirements or strict color requirements. The key issue is whether it can be recycled.
Starch based plastic shopping bags - These types of shopping bags mainly use modified starch as the main raw material, and add a small amount of other biodegradable materials to improve their performance. This plastic shopping bag can naturally degrade when discarded in the wild after use.
Degradable plastic shopping bags - These types of shopping bags are produced from fully degradable plastic as raw materials and have complete degradation performance. The product can be completely degraded into small molecule microorganisms when abandoned in the wild, without any environmental pollution. This type of plastic shopping bag is widely promoted abroad. According to the specific composition of completely degradable plastics, they can be divided into the following three categories:
(1) PLA and PHA biodegradable plastics synthesized through biological fermentation using natural starch as raw materials require a large amount of food consumption, so the development space is limited.
(2) Aliphatic polycarbonate (APC) degradable plastics synthesized from carbon dioxide as raw material, utilize the industrial byproduct carbon dioxide that is widely used as raw material. It not only does not consume food, but also reduces carbon emissions, eliminates global warming caused by greenhouse gases, and kills two birds with one stone. Therefore, the market prospects are broad.
(3) The complete degradation product of adding non starch degrading agents to ordinary plastics is in the industrialization stage, and if the degradation performance is reliable, it has great development prospects.
Non-woven fabric
Non woven shopping bags are non woven fabrics made of plastic. Many people think that cloth is a natural material, but it is actually a misconception. The commonly used non-woven fabric raw materials are polypropylene (PP, commonly known as polypropylene fiber) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET, commonly known as polyester). Especially, PP, like PE used in plastic shopping bags, belongs to the five general plastic varieties and cannot be degraded after 50 years of use.
